Good Morning,

Today we have two more guest bloggers  - one I asked to do it and the other asked me if she could do it!  We have great authors and poets in Second Grade.

Here is an article written about our new student -

I am introducing Caleb, he is a new student in our room.  He is mostly happy all the time, and his favorite subject is math. He wants to make a power project. He plays super heroes at recess. His favorite teacher is Ms. G. He wants to ride a dirt bike.

p.s.  he’s awesome

The school year is almost done.
I can't believe that I'm going to go to 3rd grade.
I'm going to miss Miss G. for ever and ever.

Hello,

I have invited a guest blogger to share our adventure to the Big Hill with you.  We will have several guest bloggers as we wind down our school year.

On  April  29, 2013,  our  class  went  to  the Big  Hill.  We learned a lot  of new stuff!  Things  like  Bluebirds are  really  rare  in  Wisconsin, so  they  have  special  bird  houses  just  for  them!  And   every  Spring   or   Fall,   they   burn   the   prairie.   I know it   sounds bad, but it`s actually   good!  Do you know why?  Because  there  are  plants  that  they  want  to  see and  don`t  want  to  see. For  example,  one  of the plants  that  they  don`t  want  to  see is  Wild   Parsnip.  I can`t   think   of   anything   that   they   do   want   to   see.  Oh!  I   just   thought   of   one!  They like   to   see   Coneflowers. The   teachers there   are:  Mrs. Brockel, and Mr. and Mrs. Kahl.  They   are   super   nice!   Anyway,   our   trip   to   the   Big   Hill   was   awesome!  I  really  like  to   go  to  the  Big  Hill  each  year. But  I`m  kind  of  glad  we  didn`t  go  yesterday,  because  it   was  eighty-three  degrees  yesterday!  Anyway, it  was  super  fun  going  to  the  Big  Hill!  That's all for now,  Emma

I was going through some of the pictures that I have taken this year of my class to get ready for my Spring Break project and I found this one from Valentine's Day that I thought I would share.  It makes me smile whenever I look at it!

Math Explorations
Here we are exploring different math concepts.  One station involves trying to figure out how many different ways you can make a dollar using quarters, dimes, and nickels.  Another one uses geoboards to make different arrays. The last one involves using a handful of counters and then tossing a dice to see how many equal piles you have to divide those counters into.

Rockin' Readers
Ever wondered what your child was doing at school?  Here they are reading during Daily 5.  They like to find comfy spots around the classroom and chill with their favorite book!

How do you eat a gingerbread cookie?
That was the question we tried answering this afternoon!  We had to map out how we ate our cookie and tomorrow we will be writing all about it.  Here we are enjoying our cookies!

Good Morning, Just wanted to give you a heads up about an important date coming up. Next week on Thursday, December 20th, our class will be doing a Reader's Theater presentation for our parents. It will start at 9:00am and I am thinking it should probably take around a half an hour. Your child will be bringing home a formal invitation today. Please RSVP to my e-mail, tgartland@deforestschools.org, by Tuesday, December 18th. I need to know if we can hold the event in our room or if we will need to move it to the cafeteria. Thanks in advance for your response. For those of you who can't make it I am planning on recording the event and I am hoping to be able to put it on our blog so everyone will get a chance to see it.
